It's obviously been a while since we posted a blog. There have been a lot of blog-worthy event - Jack's 2nd birthday, Carly's Pre-K graduation, Liz and Chris's wedding (with Carly and Jack as the flower girl and ring bearer), Carly's 5th birthday, our trip to Sonoma for Troy's cousin's wedding and family reunion, etc.
However, the one event that had to be blogged about, no matter what, is Carly's first day of kindergarten! It was last Wednesday, August 12. Carly couldn't wait! We were excited, too, but it seems like this day came way too fast!
Carly with her first-day outfit, new big-girl backpack with her name embroidered on it, and a big ol' smile. The blue tag was for the first day so the Kindergarten teachers could get them to the correct classroom.
A close-up to show off Carly's other big "first" - she lost her first tooth the Friday before school started! More on that in another post (maybe). You'll also notice she has a hairband in her hair. Jen's first day of school was the same as Carly's, so she had to leave before Carly woke up. Even though Daddy can put in a a very good pony-tail, Carly claims they are not as good as Mommy's. So anytime Dad is in charge of her hair, it can only get a hairband, and anytime Mom is in charge of her hair, she asks for a pony tail.
Here's Carly at her bus stop. That's right, she gets to ride the bus! She is in half-day kindergarten, which is all they offer in Fishers. She is in the AM class and gets to ride the bus in the morning. She is the only kindergartner at her stop, but she knows a few of the other kids and LOVES hanging out at the bus stop with the big kids! Just look how proud she is! You can also see our friends and neighbors, the Willetts, in the background. There is no way Carly's friends Ella and Laney, or their mom, Leslie, were going to miss this day!
And here is Carly's bus! You can't see Carly in this picture, she's hidden by the big kid in the back of the line. The video I took of her getting on got corrupted somehow. But she walked right on the bus with a cute little wave to me and sat down in the front row. They reserve the first 5 or 6 rows for the kindergartners. The bus driver was able to greet her by name because of her name on her backpack - an unexpected benefit of the embroidered name.
Carly's school is literally right across the street from our neighborhood, so the bus ride probably lasts 2-3 minutes. But she really enjoys it. Carly has loved her first few days of kindergarten. She really likes her teacher, Mrs. Waterson. Her school is just K-4, so it's not too big and doesn't have any of those troublesome 5th and 6th graders! :) It's crazy to think that we have just embarked on a 16 year journey of schooling. There's no looking back now!!!

Imagine my excitement when I saw that your blog had been updated and updated with such a cute post!
The girls and I love walking Carly to the bus stop (almost every morning it seems) but I personally well up when I think that Carly is already in Kindergarten! Ella misses Carly and asks about her every single day...at least next year Carly can show Ella the ropes!
Congrats on Kindergarten, Carly, and for losing your first tooth!!
